Jon Glaser Creates his own Rock n Roll History at Book Release Party
Jon Glaser just released a book, and the release was celebrated with some high profile celebrities at a free event in the Brooklyn Bell House. When I heard that Jon writing a book about never before seen documents from famous Rock n Roll bands, I was immediately intrigued. Then I heard the title of the book was called "My Dead Dad was in ZZ Top"... Being a fan of his work on Delocated and Conan O'Brien I couldn't wait to see his take on all these rock bands. If the stories that were read during his release party were any indication, this book seems to be a must buy for music and comedy lovers. The event started with an introduction from Yo La Tengo's own Ira Kaplan stating how all of the documents in the book are true (they're not) followed by Jon Glaser taking the stage to explain how the origins of the book. The rest of the night consisted of friends of Glaser interpreting different stories from the book. The people that did the readings were John Hogman (Daily Show, I'm a PC guy) Scott Adsit (30 Rock) Zoe Lister Jones (Delocated) Jon Hamm and Paul Rudd.
The highlights for me were Jon Hamm revealing the origins of the band name Butthole Surfers in such serious manner tone. Scott Adsit revealing the truth about Meg and Jack White's relationship.. It turns out that Meg White is Jack's mom and he traveled back in time in his delorean to bring her back to the future to play drums in his band... Yeah not joking around on that one. My personal favorite though was Paul Rudd revealing letters from Interpol and Franz Ferdinand to Jay Leno hoping to replace Kevin Eubanks on the tonight show. Paul's Jay Leno impression started pretty amazing, but as Jon Glaser put it afterwards "The Leno impression is a sprint not a marathon. By the end he was just some guy" Anyway if any of these stories seem funny and entertaining to you be sure to buy "My Dead Dad was in ZZ Top". The book is filled with ridiculous band stories and worth the purchase. Check out photos of the event below.
