Oh Land Art Residency

Oh Land has always instilled a nice blend of art and pop into her music. This week she's taking the next step by playing a four night residency in The Charles Bank Gallery. Every night will be a different show mixed with unique art visuals. This looks really cool and is definitely worth trying to go to. The event is invite only, but they are letting in the first 20 fans every night. So if you want to see Oh Land play an intimate art show you should get there early.

Vines- Gimme Love

Remember The Vines? That Australian band? Well apparently they're back and big fans of Scott Pilgrim. Scott Pilgrim is one of my favorite movies so I naturally had to post it.

Lil B- Illusions of Grandeur

Say what you want about Lil B's rapping, but the man is a great storyteller

The Dodos- Black Night

Loved these guys energy at SXSW and love this song and music video.

Metronomy- She Wants

This is such a cool video. I love how it was edited and the song is great as well. Side Note: If you pause the video at the 2:51 mark, you can scan the QR Code with your phone to be taken to their homepage. Pretty cool I guess.. Yay for QR Codes!

Frankie and the Heartstrings- Hunger

Vintage sound with a vintage look and feel..

The Stokes- Call me Back

Check out this new Strokes video. Sort of cool right?

Drums Debut New Lineup in Free NY Show

The drums debuted a new lineup at a free show last night at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. While the show was billed as free, the cheapest beers were 8 dollars... So does that count as free? The new lineup consisted of two new members and some shuffling around of the band. The biggest change was the former drummer is now the lead guitarist. The new lineup didn't hinder the band though, because they still rocked it. The venue was tiny and the crowd turned into a mini moshpit as the concert kicked off. The drums played the hits such as "Best Friend" and "Let's Go Surfing" mixed with some new songs. I didn't catch the names of the new songs, but they had the whole crowd dancing. You can tell that from last years SXSW to today these guys have become comfortable on the stage. Judging by the rowdy crowd at this show... The Drums look to be around for a while.

Band to Watch: The Dig

\

The dig are a four piece rock band straight out of New York. I just discovered them after they opened for Brother at the Mercury Lounge last night. I came out of the show loving both bands, but came out more impressed with these guys. They came out dedicated to rock. Proof of this dedication lied in the keyboard/guitar player playing with a cast on both his foot and his arm. When I asked him what happened he said that he fell off the stage at one of the SXSW shows.... That's hardcore. The Dig's sound consists of catchy lyrics and guitar riffs that get you to bob your head and move around a little bit. The singing would alternate between the guitarist and bass player. Since it's hard to truly describe what they sound like, I thought it would be best to just post some YouTube's of them below. Please check them out and if your interested, their album Electric Toys is available on iTunes. I listened to it after the show and they sounded just as good in the studio as they did live. Watch some of their videos below.

Mona- Shooting the Moon (Live from MTV)

Can't wait to hear these guys album when it comes out in May.

Reptar- Blast Off

Definite SXSW buzz band. These guys had a strong showing this year and impressed a lot of people. Be on the look out for these guys.

The Strokes- Taken for a Fool (Live from Letterman)

Strokes played another new song off of Angles last night. I like how they are switching up their song selections for the late night appearances.

Jessica Lea Mayfield- Our Hearts are Wrong (Live from Letterman)

I've never seen this video so it's still fresh to me.. I love this song and love this performance. Cool to see David Mayfield in this video too.

jj - The End

Wow this song progresses beautifully. Is this what heaven sounds like? Ok.. Maybe I'm going too far on the praises, but I really do like this song. Nothing short of epic. Give it a listen and judge for yourselves.

Art Brut- Unprofessional Wrestling

You've got to love Art Brut. Instead of singing in their songs, front man Eddie Argos just sort of talks and tells a story backed by guitars... And that's what makes them awesome!

TV on the Radio- Will Do

T

Check out the new video from TV on the Radio's first single off their new album.

Brother- Darling Buds of May

I'm loving these guys. If you are in the New York area you should check them out on Wednesday when they play the Mercury Lounge. We missed them at SXSW but we're ready to make it up and see them tomorrow.

Snoop Dogg (Ft. Kanye West and John Legend)- Eyes Closed

Awesome is all I have to say.

Download Pusha T's new mixtape "Fear of God"

Since taking a break from Clipse, Pusha T has been making a name for himself. Kanye added him to the G.O.O.D Music label and featured him on his hit single "Runaway" Now Pusha T finally released his much anticipated mixtape which features appearances from Kanye West, Rick Ross, 50 Cent and Pharrell. It's great to hear Pusha T shine on his solo stint. Download the full mixtape by clicking the link below.

B.O.B- NY, NY

B.O.B delivers his homage to New York. It's no Empire State of Mind, but it's still pretty great in my opinion.

Odd Future Live from the Woodies

The Woodies is the annual award show on MTV U. Check out this crazy performance from Odd Future featuring a midget Tyler, the Creator impersonator... For real

Jeff the Brotherhood- Diamond Way

We found out about these guys last year at SXSW. They came back this year with much more buzz surrounding them and played a couple of epic sets. Listen to this song off their new album We are the Champions.

Warpaint- Undertow (Javelin Remix)

After touring together this summer, Javelin decided to remix Warpaint's "Undertow" We are glad they did this because we haven't posted Warpaint in a while.. Even if this is just a remix..

J-Roddy Walston and the Business- Don't Get Old

We stumbled upon these guys at SXSW. This video is from last year so they've been around.. But they are new to us so we thought we'd introduce you guys. J-Roddy Watson is pure rock n roll. Perfect music to drink a Lone Star beer to while rocking out. Hope you guys enjoy this.

Thom Yorke's New Collaborations..

So while we were busy doing research at SXSW (Getting really drunk and stumbling across new bands) Thom Yorke has been gracing us with new singles from different collaborations. He released two songs with Four Tet and Burial along with releasing a remix of Doom's "Gazzillion Ear" Listen to all these new tracks below. Warning: They are bangers.. .

Mona- Listen to your Love

New music video from these Nashville rockers..

Teddybears (Ft. Robyn)- Cardiac Arrest

Dance Party!

Those Darlins- Be Your Bro

From a guys perspective I hate this song. I hate when girls try to be my brother.. I want to be your lover baby and we can live a happy and wonderful life together. Move down south and get away from the chaos of the city. Grow old together and live happily ever after....Maybe not.. I don't know. Good song though #GirlPower

All of the Lights Remix

Oh yes.. The song that keeps on giving. I feel that when Kanye wrote this one he wanted everyone in the world to have a verse on it. I have a feeling that we'll see more versions of this song before it's all said and done..

SXSW Artists to Watch 2011

It's that wonderful time of year again. The SXSW Festival in Austin. So many acts and parties to attend. This is the time where you realize how little pull you have by not getting allowed into most venues, even if you did pay $100 for the stupid wristbands. Let's face it... You probably won't be able to get into most of the big shows going on unless you stand in line forever waiting to be let in to the venue. Even then they will only allow badges in first. It's a rough go so be prepared to miss out on Kanye this year... Last year I was sort of glad that I couldn't get into the big shows like Muse and Hole. I had more fun seeing as many "small" bands that I could find. I ended up discovering bands like The Drums, Local Natives, Jeff the Brotherhood, Warpaint and Sleigh Bells just to name a few. Below are some bands to watch out for this year. There is so much to see at SXSW that I'm sure that we are going to discover all types of new bands when it's all said and done. We'll report back with any new musical discoveries. In the mean time watch the videos below of artists playing SXSW and have a great time at the fest. Don't party too much.. Made that mistake last year. No regrets though..

Mona

Rachel Sermanni- Song for a Fox

Now let's do the complete opposite of electro-goth.. This is sweet and melodic.

IAMX- Ghosts of Utopia

Let's get some electro-goth on the blog...

Pharoahe Monk- Clap

Hip hop music video/short film. This is pretty crazy/intense.

More Songs about Emotions...

I just heard the Rebbecca Black song "Friday"... Looks like the only problem this girl has is choosing which seat to choose in the back of the car. She's also on top of the world because it's Friday. I was about to give up on music and just delete the blog. Instead I decided to dig deep and post songs that I find lyrically great and contain actual emotions. If you saw the Rebbecca Black video, I hope that these music videos will help you regain faith in music.

Kanye's G.O.O.D Music Cipher

You have no idea how cool I think this is. Haven't posted Kanye on the blog in a while so I figured I'd go all out and post this G.O.O.D Music Cipher from the BET Awards earlier this year. I definitely think that I should be in the room with them in a nice suit and spit out a verse..

Die Antwoord- Rich Bitch

Crazy crazy crazy crazy crazy.... The only way to describe Die Antwoord....

Yelawolf and Cyhi Da Prynce celebrate Fat Tuesday in NYC

Yelawolf was certainly a highlight of SXSW last year. Ever since I saw him at the Fader Fort, I've been wanting to see him again. I actually had tickets to see him play a New York show in December, but unfortunately got in an argument with the girl I was with and left during the opener.... Don't worry she was one of those "Being nice is a sign of weakness" "Show a girl you're not interested and treat her bad for her to like you" girls... Not my style.. Whatever.. Her loss... Anyway I was really excited when I saw that I'd have another chance to see Yelawolf at the Highline Ballroom. I was even more excited that his opener was Cyhi da Prynce.

Blood Orange Surprise Brooklyn Show

You may know Devonte Hynes as Lightspeed Champion, but last night he made a surprise appearance at Public Assembly in Brooklyn as his side project Blood Orange. This is just one of his many side projects. When he's not involved in his own music he is writing and producing for other artists including Florence and the Machine and Basement Jaxx. The appearance was part of a monthly event in Brooklyn called Communion, which showcases a lot of up and coming bands from around  7 to 1 AM in the morning. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite events in the city and I discovered a lot of new bands to cover last night. He was added to the bill last minute after 1,2,3 dropped out. I personally thought that this was an improvement.  Blood Orange is similar to Lightspeed Champion except the music has more of an 80s feel to it. So far Blood Orange videos have been emerging on YouTube that feature his music set to 80s background. He also performed on Alexa Chung's last show dressed as a wizard. You can watch some of those videos below. As of last night his stage setup consisted of a laptop making beats and a him on guitar. It was a really strange set that included some bad ass guitar solos mixed with him dancing around on stage. The songs were morbid but catchy. Blood Orange is supposed to release an album sometime this year. It will be interesting to see where this project goes, but be on the lookout. Read below to see some Blood Orange videos and a Lightspeed Champion one just in case you don't know.

Dominique Young Unique- War Talk

We talked about her a bit a while ago comparing her to Nicki Minaj. Watch her new music video and see if she is worthy of our hype.

Tyler the Creator- Yonkers (Piano Version)

Watch Tyler the Creator play a new interesting version of his song "Yonkers" Basically everything Tyler does is interesting and this is no different.. What do you guys think?

Strokes on SNL

So the Strokes were the musical guest on a Miley Cyrus hosted episode of SNL last night. That's right.. This is probably the only (and hopefully last) time that these two are billed together. The Strokes played their new song "Under the Cover of Darkness" and debuted a new song called "Life is Simple in the Moonlight" I am anxiously anticipating this album because every song so far sounds completely different. Watch the performances below.

Songs about Emotions...

Let's give it up for emotions! They can be good or they can be bad. Nothing better than a song about emotions. That could be love, hate, joy and so on. Here are some emotionally charged songs that I've been jamming for the past week. Oddly enough it's been a lot of folksy stuff. Don't know what the point of this post is... Good songs below though!

Friday, March 4, 2011

Arctic Monkeys- Brick by Brick

One of my favorite bands. What do you guys think of this song? It seems like they may be going a different direction for their fourth album.
