Oh Land Art Residency
Oh Land has always instilled a nice blend of art and pop into her music. This week she's taking the next step by playing a four night residency in The Charles Bank Gallery. Every night will be a different show mixed with unique art visuals. This looks really cool and is definitely worth trying to go to. The event is invite only, but they are letting in the first 20 fans every night. So if you want to see Oh Land play an intimate art show you should get there early.

Drums Debut New Lineup in Free NY Show
The drums debuted a new lineup at a free show last night at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. While the show was billed as free, the cheapest beers were 8 dollars... So does that count as free? The new lineup consisted of two new members and some shuffling around of the band. The biggest change was the former drummer is now the lead guitarist. The new lineup didn't hinder the band though, because they still rocked it. The venue was tiny and the crowd turned into a mini moshpit as the concert kicked off. The drums played the hits such as "Best Friend" and "Let's Go Surfing" mixed with some new songs. I didn't catch the names of the new songs, but they had the whole crowd dancing. You can tell that from last years SXSW to today these guys have become comfortable on the stage. Judging by the rowdy crowd at this show... The Drums look to be around for a while.

Band to Watch: The Dig
\
The dig are a four piece rock band straight out of New York. I just discovered them after they opened for Brother at the Mercury Lounge last night. I came out of the show loving both bands, but came out more impressed with these guys. They came out dedicated to rock. Proof of this dedication lied in the keyboard/guitar player playing with a cast on both his foot and his arm. When I asked him what happened he said that he fell off the stage at one of the SXSW shows.... That's hardcore. The Dig's sound consists of catchy lyrics and guitar riffs that get you to bob your head and move around a little bit. The singing would alternate between the guitarist and bass player. Since it's hard to truly describe what they sound like, I thought it would be best to just post some YouTube's of them below. Please check them out and if your interested, their album Electric Toys is available on iTunes. I listened to it after the show and they sounded just as good in the studio as they did live. Watch some of their videos below.

SXSW Artists to Watch 2011
It's that wonderful time of year again. The SXSW Festival in Austin. So many acts and parties to attend. This is the time where you realize how little pull you have by not getting allowed into most venues, even if you did pay $100 for the stupid wristbands. Let's face it... You probably won't be able to get into most of the big shows going on unless you stand in line forever waiting to be let in to the venue. Even then they will only allow badges in first. It's a rough go so be prepared to miss out on Kanye this year... Last year I was sort of glad that I couldn't get into the big shows like Muse and Hole. I had more fun seeing as many "small" bands that I could find. I ended up discovering bands like The Drums, Local Natives, Jeff the Brotherhood, Warpaint and Sleigh Bells just to name a few. Below are some bands to watch out for this year. There is so much to see at SXSW that I'm sure that we are going to discover all types of new bands when it's all said and done. We'll report back with any new musical discoveries. In the mean time watch the videos below of artists playing SXSW and have a great time at the fest. Don't party too much.. Made that mistake last year. No regrets though..

More Songs about Emotions...
I just heard the Rebbecca Black song "Friday"... Looks like the only problem this girl has is choosing which seat to choose in the back of the car. She's also on top of the world because it's Friday. Yelawolf and Cyhi Da Prynce celebrate Fat Tuesday in NYC
Yelawolf was certainly a highlight of SXSW last year. Ever since I saw him at the Fader Fort, I've been wanting to see him again. I actually had tickets to see him play a New York show in December, but unfortunately got in an argument with the girl I was with and left during the opener.... Don't worry she was one of those "Being nice is a sign of weakness" "Show a girl you're not interested and treat her bad for her to like you" girls... Not my style.. Whatever.. Her loss... Anyway I was really excited when I saw that I'd have another chance to see Yelawolf at the Highline Ballroom. I was even more excited that his opener was Cyhi da Prynce.

Blood Orange Surprise Brooklyn Show
You may know Devonte Hynes as Lightspeed Champion, but last night he made a surprise appearance at Public Assembly in Brooklyn as his side project Blood Orange. This is just one of his many side projects. When he's not involved in his own music he is writing and producing for other artists including Florence and the Machine and Basement Jaxx. The appearance was part of a monthly event in Brooklyn called Communion, which showcases a lot of up and coming bands from around 7 to 1 AM in the morning. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite events in the city and I discovered a lot of new bands to cover last night. He was added to the bill last minute after 1,2,3 dropped out. I personally thought that this was an improvement. Blood Orange is similar to Lightspeed Champion except the music has more of an 80s feel to it. So far Blood Orange videos have been emerging on YouTube that feature his music set to 80s background. He also performed on Alexa Chung's last show dressed as a wizard. You can watch some of those videos below. As of last night his stage setup consisted of a laptop making beats and a him on guitar. It was a really strange set that included some bad ass guitar solos mixed with him dancing around on stage. The songs were morbid but catchy. Blood Orange is supposed to release an album sometime this year. It will be interesting to see where this project goes, but be on the lookout. Read below to see some Blood Orange videos and a Lightspeed Champion one just in case you don't know.
